The lake
Plas Walenhoek lies in Ochten, in green and quiet surroundings. The lake is home to the Hungarian carp, which you will not catch anywhere else in the Netherlands.

The Hungarian carp
Jos Tilleman has fished for carp in many European countries. The Hungarian carp always stayed with him, and that is why it now swims in Walenhoek. That makes this lake the only place in the Netherlands where you can fish for this carp.
Carp are big, strong fish, and that makes fishing for them exciting. They can grow up to 1.25 metres long and weigh up to 45 kilos.

The lake
On the south side the lake slopes down to its deepest part, to around ten metres. A reed marsh runs along the north side, and by the north bank there is a field of floating plants, with the islands and the shallower part of the lake within reach. Every spot has its own clearly marked fishing area.
